these are great for reference. Working on a game with some friends atm. Was planning on having loads of effects like these for it.

I'm curious about where you get your ideas for effects like these, and how you decide what shape each should take.  I've been trying to get better at doing special effects of these sorts in my drawings, but haven't had a lot of luck in finding good references for the kinds of things I'd like to do.
